Violin & Viola Posture
Standing Posture
1. Feet: When standing your feet are positioned apart with your left foot slightly in front of your right foot.
3. Side View: The bow is straight. The arms are up and away from the body. The bow crosses the strings at a 90-degree angle.
2. Playing Position: The violin rests on the left shoulder and the chin helps balance its weight. Your arms are bent at the elbow, but straight by your wrists.
4. Back View: The left arm is away from the body. It is bent at the elbow, but straight by the wrist.
Sitting Posture
1. Sitting Playing Position: You are sitting up straight with your feet flat on the floor. The violin is held the same way as when you stand. The arms are out from the sides and straight at the wrists.
2. Side View: You sit at the edge of the chair. Your knees are bent with the feet flat on the floor.
Rest Position
1. Standing Rest Position: The violin is tucked under the right arm. The bow can hang in your right hand.
2. Sitting Rest Position: The violin and bow rest on the knees.
